The Defender 90 can take on a lot of water and still keep on going, The gauges are splash proof and most electronics are sealed up good from the factory. Though I never recommend to go deeper than the factory specified 18 inches of fording depth.  ( I only lost the AM /FM radio on this big water hole) flooded
I use "dielectric grease" (It can be bought at any automotive store)  on all the connector plugs and all relay connections
All of the breather tubes for the diff's and transmission go to a central location.
I also removed the masking tape in the battery compartment and bought some 1 inch "knockout" plugs and silicone them in place.   ( I removed the dynomat that I installed in the compartment and the sticky residue is still there.)

The connector for the 4 ignition coils on our 97 always gave us problems so I installed shrink tubing and silicone to prevent water from getting in.  This connector if wet will cause a miss-fire and the check engine light would come on even after going through a drive through car wash.  The white color is the shrink tubing near the throttle cable.
