Back in 1994 my heart was set to own a Land Rover Defender 90, since it was voted  4 wheeler of the year and the off-road capabilities were that far superior to any stock production vehicle with exception to the AM General Hummer.  I had to convince my wife since it was a family purchase, we had to both agree.  She said "Yellow is cute, but I want a automatic transmission".  So I let 1994 and 1995 pass since only a 5 speed was available. Then I found out that there will be no 1996 Defenders imported into the USA. We were so depressed, 2 years and that was all the imports.  I still occasionally stopped buy the local  Land Rover dealership to look at the ones sold and in the service bay.  Then one day the sales man Alan Lucks showed me a memorandum from Land Rover that said they will bring into the USA for only one year and it will have a 4.0 lt. engine instead of the 3.9 and a Automatic transmission.   After that there will be no more because there is no air bags.  A short time after we made a deposit to be put on the list, we were number 11 on the list.  8 months later we were 1st on the list for a 1997 soft top yellow defender.  When the first yellow arrived at the dealer we were contacted even before it was prepped.   After we had some factory accessories installed we took delivery in May 15th 1997.   Here is the beginning to present :
