June 24, 2000 (Sat.)

We kept missing the chances to attend the trail cut work past several months.  So decided to go this Member Appreciation Day.  And we were surprised to see the progress at the facility compared with the 1st time we were there for trail cut.  This time we went with Doug & Kim Aitken (HLRC) and several SHR (Southern high Roller Club)members also attended.

Doug Aitken headed to the trail
From the beginning this down hill was a little hard on the (stock) Discovery  (Level 3 Trails)

We went further there was a "V" shape down & up hill
Of course a long wheel base Discovery got stuck
Doug pulled us out
Afterwards we realized our factory traction  control was off.
After that we drove thru much harder obstacles with it on.

There is red clay and small rocks throughout the trail.
This was a pretty twisty trail that once we got in we had to go through it.   Discovery did  good and survived....

Some areas had no by-passes so we had to carefully negotiate the eroded trail
For only being a week old the stock Discovery drove thru with no problem thanks to the built in traction control

...with Doug's assistance placing rocks under the tire we drove out with minor damage to the rear bumper
Kim "Oops" the tire slipped into the eroded spot and it looked bad

Just some checking around the vehicle and looking for obstructions it only took some spotting and Doug backed right out with no damage

We are ready to go back to Gilmer to make trails that most any 4x4 can drive on with no big damages !
